Setting up gift card products - step #3: gift card product pricing and discounts

Setting up gift card product pricing

You can find the gift card product pricing settings under the Pricing tab in the third step of the product builder.

Setting the pricing type

You start by setting the gift card price type to be fixed or custom.

 

Setting fixed prices

This setting is the base price and given value for the gift card.

You can set the Price Type to Fixed Price so that customers can purchase the gift card for a set amount, e.g., $100.00.

Once you select the price type, the system displays the amount field. In the Amount field, you must enter the gift card value. By default, the gift card amount is $10.

Setting custom prices

You can set the Price Type to a Custom Price so that customers can specify the gift card amount.

You must enter an acceptable price range using the Minimum Amount and Maximum Amount input fields, for example, $25.00 - $500.00. By default, the minimum amount is $10, and the maximum is $100.

The custom amount is displayed as a single input field to the customer within the booking page or widget.

The customer-entered amount represents the gift card's value and price (before discounts).

 

Hiding amounts on PDFs sent to the recipient

You can also Hide the amount on the PDF sent to the recipient by toggling on the related setting. By default, the amount is visible to customers.

The Hide amount on PDF sent to the recipient setting does not control the email variables in the notifications, such as {$GIFTCERT_TOTAL} or {GIFTCERT_BALANCE}.

You must remove these variables from the email template if you don't want the information conveyed via variables.

Setting up gift card discounts

Would you like to offer gift cards at discounted rates during the off-season or select sales promotions throughout the year? The Gift Card Discounts settings allow you to do just that.

  1. Start by entering the Sales Dates for your offering. You can enter the dates manually or choose them from the provided calendar, e.g., 03/01/25 - 03/31/25.
  2. Specify the Discount percentage, e.g., 20%. You can preview the discounted amount to the right of your entry, e.g., $10.00 $8.00
  3. Repeat this process for every unique discount offer by clicking the +Add a Discount button.

  • Discount sales dates must not overlap. 
  • Gift cards are redeemable for their stated value, which may differ from the purchase price, and you can discount the purchase price. 

 

Activating your gift card

Once you finish setting it up, click the Activate button at the bottom of the page to activate the gift card.

Before you start, click the Confirm & Activate prompt to confirm that you can launch the gift card with customers.
 

Frequently asked questions

Where can I quickly find this feature using the menu?

  • Products > Gift Cards > Add or edit gift card product > Pricing tab

What permissions do I need to use this feature?

  • Admin permissions or restricted permissions are required to Manage gift cards and Manage gift card products. 

Can I charge tax on a gift card purchase?

  • Gift cards are non-taxable. However, depending on your account settings, inventory booked and paid for with a gift card may be subject to taxation.
