Setting up gift card product validity
Find the gift card product validity settings within the second step of the product builder under the Validity tab.
Specifying the start date
You need to determine when the gift card is valid— on the purchase date, a specific date, or as of the delivery date.
Start validity on the purchase date
You can set the gift card as valid as of the purchase date. Select the Purchase Date option under the Start Date section.
Start validity on a specific date
You can choose a specific start date for your gift card, such as January 1, 2025. Select the Specific Date option under the Start Date setting.
When you choose the Specific Date option, you must specify a Start Date. You can type in the date or select it from the provided calendar.
This option is ideal if you want the gift card to be redeemable only during a specific time of year, such as during your off-season.
The gift card is redeemable as of the start date.
Start validity on the delivery date
You can choose the start date as the delivery date. Under the Start Date setting, select the Delivery Date option.
This option allows customers to determine when they want the gift card sent, such as on the recipient's birthday.
The gift card is not redeemable until this date.
Setting the expiry date
You must determine when the gift card expires—never, on a specific date, or after a specified time. The available options depend on the specified start date.
Never expires
You can set the gift card to never expire by selecting the first option under the Expiry Date section.
This setting determines whether you specify the start date as the purchase date, a specific date, or the delivery date.
Setting the gift card never to expire is essential for businesses operating in regions where gift card expiry dates are not legally permitted.
The gift card never expires and is always redeemable.
Expires on a specific date
You can choose for the gift card to expire on a specific date, for example, December 31, 2025.
This setting determines whether you specify the start date as the purchase date, a specific date, or as of the delivery date.
First, select the Specific Date option under the Expiry Date setting.
Next, you must specify the expiry date by entering it in the designated field or selecting it from the calendar provided.
This option is beneficial when your gift card is related to a time-sensitive marketing promotion.
The gift card is not redeemable after the expiry date.
Expires a specified number of days after purchase
If you choose to set the start date to the purchase date, you can set the expiry date to expire a specified period after purchase.
First, select the Duration option under the Expiry Date setting.
Next, you can enter the number of days, months, or years until the card expires, then select the increment from the drop-down menu.
Finally, if you choose a duration of months or years, you can set the gift card expiry date to the last day of the selected month(s) or year(s) by selecting the option displayed.
This after-purchase date expiry option is helpful if you want to encourage redemption.
The gift card is not redeemable after its expiration date.
Expires a number of days after delivery
If you choose to set the start date based on the delivery date, you can set the expiry date to expire a specified period after delivery.
First, select the Duration option under the Expiry Date setting.
Next, enter the number of days, months, or years until the card expires, selecting the increment from the drop-down menu.
Finally, if you choose a duration of months or years, you can set the gift card expiry date to the last day of the selected month(s) or year(s) by selecting the option displayed.
This after-delivery date expiry option ensures that the recipient has a specific amount of time to redeem the gift card after receiving it.
The gift card is not redeemable after its expiration date.
